What’s on the sheet
- Match details: event, date, court, match number, both teams, first referee and scorer
- For every set: each team's starting lineup in serving order I–VI
- Substitutions (number in / number out), timeouts used and the final score
- A running score per team: 1–30 for 25-point sets (room for deuce) and 1–20 for the deciding set
- Match result: sets won, winner and signatures
How to fill it in
- Before each set, collect both lineup slips and write the jersey numbers in serving order: position I is the first server.
- Every rally ends in a point (rally scoring). Shade or slash the next number in the winning team's running score.
- When the receiving team wins a rally, it rotates and its next player in the I–VI order serves.
- Write each substitution as "in/out" (e.g. 15/8) and tick each timeout.
- A set ends at 25 (15 in the deciding set) with a two-point lead — keep going past 25 if needed. Write the final and start the next set's lineups.
- After the match, fill in sets won and the winner, and have the referee and scorer sign.
Questions people ask
How do you fill out a volleyball score sheet?
Write both lineups in serving order before each set, shade one number in the winning team's running score after every rally, log substitutions as in/out and tick timeouts. The filled-out example on this page shows a complete best-of-3 match.
How many points is a volleyball set?
Under rally scoring, sets are played to 25 and the deciding set (the 3rd in a best-of-3, the 5th in a best-of-5) to 15. A team must win by two, so sets can go past 25 or 15.
How many timeouts does each team get?
Usually two per set in high school, club and international play, but leagues differ — check yours. The sheet has a timeout box for each set.
How many substitutions are allowed in volleyball?
It varies a lot by league and level (international rules allow far fewer than most school and club rules), so there's no single number. The sheet lets you log every substitution as in/out so you can count them against your league's limit.
What does I–VI mean on a volleyball lineup?
It's the serving order. Position I serves first; when your team wins the serve back, the team rotates and the player in position II becomes the server, and so on.
